A Great Project to use up Scrap Yarn!!

First I decided what size square I wanted to end up with.
I decided to make a 8 x 8 square, so I made 8 strips
each 2 x 8 inches.

Then I wove the strips together and pinned them to hold strips in place.

Then I crocheted around the edge with a single crochet stitch,
connecting the strips together.

Then I crocheted around the square with a double crochet stitch.

Then sewed the squares together and added another row of
double crochet around the outer edge of completed afghan.

Easy Peasy Fun!!!!!

    1. I chained 24 stitches, but you can change the length to whatever length you want. I used a double crochet stitch. Have fun!!

  7. This is a fantastic idea for using up bits and bobs of leftover yarns! Better yet, it can be done with crocheted strips like yours or knitted or woven ones.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

  12. I've been searching for a great stash-buster project that will work for colors that really don't go together. This is marvelous!!! All the variety celebrates how my grandmother made quilts out of scraps. Thank you!!!!

  18. Great way to use some yarn that you've used on special projects for parents, spouse, children, and grandchildren to remember the projects that you made and who it was made for. Just like they do with quilts when they use pieces of clothing from favorite articles of clothing.

  21. I love this idea! I have alot of odd ends of yarn and alot of black yarn leftover from a failed project.
Can you give me a little more step by step instructions? Like how many stitches in the length and how many rows in the width you did? Thank you so much for the great project!

  22. This is so clever. What a great way to not only use old yarn, but also make small pieces that travel easily. Thanks so much!

  23. I did figure this out on my own. Chain 23 , double crochet in second loop from hook. Double crochet across turn, (21 double crochet) chain two continue for total of three rows . Finish off . I hope this helps. I am new to posting but not crocheting.

  24. New to crocheting and I love this! How did you sew the squares together? That part is intimidating me

  25. You don't sew each square together. When you see the edge it holds it.

    1. After you pin the strips together you use your crochet hook and sticking hook in stitches of both strips you make a single crochet stitch which binds the strips together. Does that help??

  28. What a great idea. I've started my version and I'm loving it. Great use for my big pile of mismatched leftover yarn. Biggest plus of all is how warm it will be. Thanks for sharing this great idea.

  30. What is the pattern for the 2 X 8 inch strips? Once you weave the strips together--how do you keep them in place? Thank you for your help.

  31. What kind of stitch did you use to weave the strips together?

    1. I wove the pieces together by hand the pinned the edges. Then I crocheted a double stitch around the edge of square catching the pinned ends in the stitch. Then the squares were ready to slip stitch together to make blanket.

      Hope that helps!
